Emergency Response - EMS

Over the years UIFR has been a basic life support (BLS) provider to the island community. BLS provides a general level of diagnoses and treatment with the ability to assist with some medical emergencies, trauma injuries and medication administration per Lee County Protocol. 

A new agreement and partnership was established as of August 2022  with Lee County EMS. Our agreement approves UIFR to provide advanced life support (ALS) for medical emergencies!

Implementation of ALS service and care and the addition of certified FF/PM's have been addressed. Currently part-time staff are both FF/Paramedic's and FF/EMT's.

Regardless of the level of care provided, we strive to ensure the patient always receives the proper support. Our intervention is imperative in determining care and transport. Transport is done by boat or helicopter. That determination is based on a multitude of factors, weather,  severity of illness or injury.  Transport and supportive care is facilitated through our partnerships with UIC boat captains, Lee County EMS, Lee Flight, and Matlacha/Pine Island.  

UIFR also provides response to Cabbage Key, Cayo Costa,  and other surrounding islands and water ways.
